Andres and I moved to the area in 2007. We both grew up in the Niagara area and were used to living in open spaces with good proximity to water. Parks and trails, running outside, and riding your bike… it only felt natural to move to Long Branch. We found the space we were after and the amenities we missed while living downtown.
Since then we are still psyched about our decision to move here. It’s nice to have a little city getaway after work or on the weekend without having to deal with traffic. A nice long walk on the lake, a great meal close by or a hang in one of the local dog parks with your best bud. We’ve got the airport super close by, which is very convenient when family and friends from abroad are visiting. Aside from that a trip in pretty much any direction will not take long to hit the road as the 401, 403, 409, 427 and QEW are all only a few mins away. Not a driver, not a problem, with two GO stations in the area a trip to pretty much withtin or out of the city is no prob.
Although the community (like all of Toronto) is very multicultural, there is a heavy European influence which presents us with some icons like the Dimplflemeir bakery. Drive a bit north of the lake and you will find yourself on the Queensway, which hosts not only all the main big box stores for when you need them like Home Depot and Costco, but arguably the best mall in Toronto, Sherway Gardens, having recently completed a $550 million expansion. A cup of coffee at Birds and Beans or any of the many locally owned coffeeshops. Skating in Colonel Smith Park in the winter with hot cocoa is a pre Christmas must with festive music playing over loudspeakers placed around the rink. If you are into water sports, there are three yacht clubs in the area. Also… There’s the Mastercard Centre if you are into Hockey, three golf courses and Farmers Markets on the weekends. Everything you need is close at hand.
Living near the waterfront is addictive, which, if you live here you are well aware of. If you are thinking of moving to the area you won’t know what you’ve been missing until you live here.
