As some of you may know, this past February, Ingrid and I tried our hand at ice climbing. Climbing Denali, has been a dream of mine for some time, and although it does not require extreme ice climbing to summit, there is the need for ropes as well as ice tools and crampons. The video below made me recall how much I really enjoyed the experience. We also do a bit of rock climbing but I am just so much more attracted to climbing ice. For some reason it feels like you are even more in touch with nature and more isolated (probably since in order for it to be safe to climb ice, the weather is extremely cold and not a lot of people like that). As odd as it sounds, I can’t wait for winter to come so we can get back out there and get one step closer to hitting Denali. In the meantime I will just have to enjoy watching videos like this.
BTW – the climb below is a WI6 rating, which means it is all vertical climbing, no rests. It requires a ton of skill and fitness.
